Many thanks to Ocha & Co for sending me their Kyoto Uji Matcha.
This matcha comes from the famous region of Uji, in Kyoto prefecture. You can’t ask for a better place to cultivate this powdered green tea.
As an added feature, it’s made with the Okumidori cultivar.
The vendor also says that it’s a premium grade, to prepare usucha. So what I guess is that it’s a high grade, but it doesn’t reach ceremonial grade.
The white foil bag is resealable, and inside there are 50 grams of matcha.
It has a fresh aroma that’s very sweet. That alone proves this matcha’s quality.
The color is a bright green. It has a good aspect.
Let’s whisk this matcha
As always, I used 2 teascoops (2 grams) of matcha and 60 ml of hot water (80°C, 176°F).
After whisking, the matcha frothed and it was ready for tasting. I took a quick picture first, I hope that you like it 🙂
I was thinking of including in each matcha review my thoughts on how easy each one frothed, but I realized that I had become better at whisking.
In other words, it wouldn’t be fair for the earlier matcha reviews.
Regarding taste, I found it quite good.
I could feel some umami flavor, very few astringency, and some bitterness (but not excessive). The aftertaste is also pleasant.
It’s a good everyday matcha, you’ll certainly enjoy its quality. Give Kyoto Uji Matcha a try, it’s very affordable.
