I moved to a new apartment and because I hadn’t unpacked all the boxes, I ended up not drinking much tea for several days.
But now I have the pleasure to review this kabusecha from Mohei Tea.
The tea’s name, 星月夜, means “starry night”.
It’s made in Fuji city, Shizuoka prefecture.
I haven’t drank a tea from this city before.
The website doesn’t mention the cultivar used, so it must be Yabukita.
Let’s taste this kabusecha
This tea has a fresh aroma, with a light sweetness. I like it.
But more interestingly, the leaves have an excellent appearance.
They are very thin, tightly rolled, and with a dark green color, plus luster.
High quality green tea leaves for sure.
I can’t wait to try it.
Here are the brewing parameters that I’ll use: one teaspoon of tea, and 60 ml (2 oz) of water at 80ºC (176ºF), with an infusion time of one minute.
The wet leaf aroma is as follows.
Marine and vegetal notes, with some sweetness.
It also has a high umami taste.
The flavor is balanced, with a long and fresh aftertaste.
Not bitter, and I don’t think that it is astringent either.
It’s just what I was looking for. A high quality green tea with a classic taste.
Oh, and the liquor has a yellow color.
I made another infusion, keeping everything the same, except the infusion time. 40 seconds.
Now it feels a little astringent, and with less body.
But other than that, it’s a nice cup of green tea.
For the third and last infusion, I added boiling water for 10 seconds.
A light flavor. Not bad.
I’m very pleased with this tea.
Here’s the link to the product page.
I hope that I continue to drink teas like this one in 2025.

Kabusecha for me is a nice balance between sencha and gyukuro especially with price.
Thanks for another interesting review.
